It is a Jazz Venn diagram: compound and improvised, formal and loose. And the listeners never know what fragment of Okonski will see at one point or if there is even a significant distinction. The Jazz trio piano, which left his new LP, entered music on February 28, has deposited all his musical cards on the table. What are the demanding situations of having an organization without a classic tool and singer to attract the listener in a very available way? 

I think there are the 3 main tools at other times. In front music, Mike opens the B appearance with one bright bass. Aaron has other times when he is alone. I have moments when I play. And so, everyone will have to accentuate to direct at one time or another. And I think, with this musician organization, everything is very comfortable. I think the feeling will have to be intelligent due to the lack of singer or a horn player. You have to balance your head, or at least you have to worry about him from the beginning. And possibly you would not have the impression of lacking anything. I hope someone who listens not to do so.  

Music has a rhythmic element, especially in the EP sessions trio. Would you say that hip hop, basically Hip Hop instrumental, has a wonderful influence on the group? 

Yes, maximum. There is a long list of influences, however, hip hop and songs that Hip Hop reported and the songs that Hip Hop artists have played. I am a great admirer of Bob James. I don’t know if someone was more sampled than him in the Global Hip Hop. And I like to pay attention to the music that was shown, little more frequently than I like to pay attention to the original songs. Then, I would say, above all, the beginning of the production of the 90s has a massive influence.

If a singer or rapper has approached a type of collaboration for you, would it do it? The trio sessions can be an EP rap with a forged MC involved.  

I would like to have those albums in their hands, cut them out and do what he needs with them. I mean, out of Magnolia, Pale Jay took this song “Runner Up”, and simply tested the first component of this and built a new total song of the so -called “By the Lake. “

I mean the writing procedure because, listening to music, I felt that there was room for improvisation, but it didn’t seem that it was basically improvised. It is composed. Are there graphics? Tell me how the melodies gathered and developed.

Yes, speaking of anything about the new album, Lénance Music, a song like “October”, there were no graphics. There were graphics for any of those songs. I had already discovered the little melody, in segment A, but in segment B, the transition period. I showed it to the boys.

I said: “All this is flat, and that’s what I do. ” But we are not talking about the form. I tell Mike: “Maybe starting this in the arch”, then we will see what will happen. Or I will say: “Aaron, let’s start it. And then, when I enter with something, we will replace the sensation. “

So, something like that, there is a nugget of a concept in advance, which we then explore live, while we are recording. A song like “Lakebridge” is very open. He just says, let’s do anything. Let’s look at this key, and let’s see what is happening. And that, I don’t come with a melody. We only play. And then, when you open this, this melody that is there, while I play at the beginning, I look at not to forget it.   When we feel we get to the end of the song, let me repeat it. A song like “Dahlia” was exclusive to this album, in the sense that it is probably maximum compound. In general, frontal music is more composed than Magnolia.  

From time to time, you will see a jazz artist who makes a complete cover of the album. So, yes, for any explanation, why, the label or a collaborator such as: “Boys, here is a great check. And I want you to absolutely recognize the album of another group, but it is your choice. ” What would you do?

This is a wonderful question. What would we do as a trio? It is difficult. We have not made many blankets. Check out to think about some of my favorite albums. It would be known for checking a piano trio album. If I love it, it is because they did it perfectly at that time.
