Slayer’s own guitarist, Gary Holt, as an admirer of Taylor Swift.
The 60-year-old, who also plays in Exodus, Bay Area thrashers, his affinity for pop music in a new interview with the Scandalous podcast.
He also says that gender, metal, is his preference when it comes to driving.
“I love pop!” Holt says (for Guitar. com).
“I usually listen to pop music in the car, not metal.
“There’s some bad stuff in [the Sirius XM broadcast]. . . but I would pay attention to George Michael myself. “
Moving on to Swift, Holt declares his admiration for the ethics and generous personality of the pop megastar paintings.
“I love Taylor Swift!” He helps you move forward.
“Why all this hate? She’s a hard worker, she’s great with everyone and people hate her.
“She is the biggest pop star in the world and has the most power. I love the songs!
Holt continues the intensity of his love of pop, saying he used to spin Madonna on a jaunt with the black steel villains Venom in the 1980s.
“I’m a Swiftie, but when I Knew You Were Trouble plays on the radio, I don’t replace it,” he says.
“I like it! I like pop music. I liked it, even in the days of Bonded By Blood [referring to Exodus’ first album from 1985].
“I was on tour with Venom and I was at the bar, writing a song in every word for Madonna’s Angel. And Cronos [Venom singer and bassist Conrad Lant] would shake his head and say, “What’s wrong with this guy?!”»
Holt joined Slayer in 2011 as guitarist for then-guitarist Jeff Hanneman.
When Hanneman died of liver failure at the age of 49 two years later, Holt became the band’s permanent guitarist.
Slayer retired in 2019, after a long goodbye, announced their reunion this year.
They will perform at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 20-22, Louder Than Life in Louisville on September 27, and Aftershock in Sacramento on October 10.
Guitarist Kerry King recently said that Slayer’s concerts would be few.
“Don’t get used to it being an annual event,” Classic Rock History said.
