In a 1994 interview with Bet, one of the rapper convincing top, 2pac gives words to those who might think about asking their position in society: “If I cannot live free, if I cannot live with the same respect as the next man,” he says: “I don’t need to be here. God damn me to see how life deserves a look. ” He stores his compassion for those who have been taken in what can be described as the trap: the forgotten communities through the country that was no stranger to his short life.

Since its arrival at the level with its beginnings in 2004, Lecrae has also occupied two different global but not completely opposite: the sacred and the layman. His music, a little as his life, has been so much inspiration in the streets and consult the disorders of the genuine global to document his non -public adventure of faith. And although his technique was a balm for believers who shared the same concepts in a decade and a half, he also earned him an intelligent percentage of criticism. Sticklers than his rise in the dominant existing as a form of non -secular commitment. But all this only made Lecrae more attentive to his convictions, either in life and art. Lecrae obviously indicated that it will not be pressed in a genre or that it would serve as a poster for a specific agenda.

After a multitude of scoring Mixtapes and LP, its last is the 2017 copy, everything paints together, which culminated in No. 3 in the Billboard 200, Lecrae is back with new materials.   Let the trap say that amen, a collaboration with the manufacturer decorated Zaytoven (Gucci Mane, Migos, Future), was born of mutual respect for the paintings of the other. After years of maneuvering through some of the same circles, the two thought they could join forces. The result is an assignment that overflows with thunderous rhythms, fast shooting bars and, as enthusiasts expect, Lecrae, the narrative. In this document, the rapper looks at an America turned through new eyes and emerges with a type of manifesto; These are -psalms for the forgotten. That he manages to make it fun, in large part thanks to the instrumentation of Zaytoven and adapt to the atmospheres made, it is a feat to take into account. The maximum notable tracks come with the main single “Get Back Right”, “By Luck”, with their soothing piano loop and the “Judge Me” confessional, who silenced his detractors and reaffirms his artist position with a word to transmit.

Lecrae’s career has, in some aspects, to challenge categorization. And to tell the truth, it is its productive maximum and the maximum conscious of oneself. “2 sides 2 The game”, other prominent points, go to Lecrae associate with one of the maximum popular children of Atlanta Waka Flocka.   Above the monstrous drum of Zaytoven, the two rappers exchange captivating street stories that read about their respective circle of relatives of relatives in the trap. It takes a tone and reflects the sound and non-braking sound landscape that dominates hip-hop in 2018; It seems golden grills, barbecues and walks at the end of the night throughout the city. “These are two sides in the game and are not” say, “they implore.

Billboard has attached to Lecrae to communicate about the new project, how it connected with Zaytoven and what the trap means for him.

How and Zaytove had met you for the first time?

Zay and I didn’t meet unusual friends. I knew Shawn Holiday, Sony senior vice president, who helped A&R to my newest album All Things Work Together. I also knew 1k Thofe, a young artist who was not and who I later signed for my Reach Records stamp.

You and Zaytoven live in Atlanta, and the task feels very connected to the city.   Do you have to need a safe direction in terms of sound and its content?

Absolutely. I have been Zay’s fan for many years. I never imagined we would paint in combination in an album. But we have just had this jump chemistry. It looks a lot like me. We have a tendency to make the song after the song. But none of us likes to meet any script; It is no longer a feeling. This is how the south moves as a whole, and we seek to take this to the music of all the senses.

It is more intuitive than the formula.

Yes, it’s like blues, boy. Blues and gospel. You feel it and do it. I think of other people such as Ray Charles, Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes. Everyone abandoned the south and adhered to a safe culture and energy. It is not a blow in teams like Temptations or Supremes, at all, but they were much more educated in the way they did things. But the center of the south is based more on intuition and feeling, and adheres to where this feeling takes it. It is herbal and visceral.

What writing and recording process of the album?

We were a lot in combination while we created all the songs. It was a really simple process, in fact. We simply exchange studies ideas; He told me what an idea that he needed a track and that he would catch an environment right there and jumped on the stage. Or I recorded separately and showed him when he arrived here to the studio, and he would be like “Wow!”

Why is it vital for you to show some other aspect of the trap? It seems very intentional to offer other people another angle from which they can be accustomed.

I think many other people fail to achieve the diversity of the trap. Especially other people who do not perceive what is happening in some of those communities. They do not see the nuances. They only see drug shooters, money, crime and all that.

They do not see the cases that can lead to other people to adopt a specific lifestyle.

Okay, and they are other genuine people we are talking about. People with genuine feelings and thoughts, hopes and dreams. Most of the time, the stories that are told are the ones that other people need to listen. They need to listen to a story that looks like an action movie. They do not need to hear about growth, intelligence and development. But all this is there. I saw it. My boy T. I. I saw it. The murderer Mike saw him. 2 Chainz saw it. And we do it. We are all wise entrepreneurs. So yes, we can tell you horror stories all day. But we also need to tell hero’s stories. Is the consultation knowing that other people revolve more?

You have spoken a lot in the beyond the fight to have to grow and mature in the eyes of the public. The one who comes with that. How is people’s expectations manage those days?

To tell the truth, I am at a time when I am not even worried about what other people think I say or do. They do not return to my children at night. They cannot respond to God for me. I will have to be the one who created Lecrae. That is all I can do. Everything else makes a slave made of me. A slave to the reviews of other people who do not know me; a slave to his money; A slave of his wishes for me. But I don’t have time to concentrate on this. I am free. So, every time you listen to me, I know I speak as a person thrown.
