For the last episode of the Essentials On Apple Music Hits radio, the presenter Estelle joined the remarkable pioneer of the Reggae Jimmy Cliff who also discussed that they are coming; The song, the movie and the 50th anniversary of the accompanying soundtrack.

During the interview – which you can listen to in full here – Cliff told Apple Music about the origins of the project, reggae music’s endurance, the stories behind notable tracks “Many Rivers To Cross”, “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and more.

He began by telling Apple Music about the origin of The Harder They Come film.

“At the time I was living in the UK and the director, Perry Henzell, brought me the script and said he would like me to star in his film,” she revealed. “So we shot a scene and he was very pleased to have discovered the user to make his film after all those years of making it. “

“Well, it took a few things to make me say yeah because at the time, I was doing very well in Europe. I had hit records there. I was making good money. Well, one of the main things that made me agree to say yeah was the director said to me, “You know, Jimmy, I think you’re a better actor than singer.” And my eyes popped open because I’ve always said that to myself, and nobody ever read my mind to say that. So, that really closed the deal for me.”

However, the sing was extremely surprised by the success of The Harder They Come film.

“We were all,” he said. “Because it is the first Jamaican film, and we all enter it, as if we were immersing in a vacuum, empty hands. However, we were all convinced that it can be a success.

Later in the interview, Cliff revealed his idea about how to make his old successes of the film and added: “You can get it if necessary” and “there are many rivers to cross. “

“Because they need it, I give it away,” he said. Where there is a demand, it must be satisfied. It is what it is. That’s the motivation to do it night after night. Some reggae music isn’t limited to the music, the rhythm and all that. Language is a new sound to people’s ears. So yes, everything is fine.
