TOP (L A R) Jazz in Lincoln Center, NYC. / Jazz Panel Congress discusses Jazz in Latin America. Discussion in Backside (L A R) for the Jazz public and promotions with Lydia Liebman (in the middle to the left) and the recording artist Michael Leonhart (in the middle to the right). / Save Artists Sylvia Brooks and Syndee Winters.
The past calendar year brought to the table a massive cornucopia of true-to-genre jazz artists and album releases, which have, in actuality, been overwhelming with regard to the amount of great jazz albums to consider for this exposé. When referring to being genre-accurate, we consider the many styles of jazz music and the recording artists alike, that are regarded as ‘palatable’ by those of us who take the genre and its true affiliations, seriously … sometimes a bit too seriously. Goldmine has gathered together 25 albums (after considering literally dozens), mostly from the 2024 music season — representing the various incarnations of Bebop, Soul-jazz, Spiritual-jazz, Jazz fusion (and yes, some Vocal jazz), both by way of legacy reissues and new releases — for the purpose of giving accolades to the music, and well-thought out recommendations to our dedicated readers who consider themselves loyal and discerning ‘fans of Jazz.’
