One of the biggest tweaks in iOS 18 is the new Photos app, which has been completely redesigned. In a new interview with The National, three Apple executives discussed the design of the new Photos app, which has so far proved moot.

Billy Sorrentino, senior director of Apple’s human interface design team, explained the motivation behind this radical overhaul.

“As our features, users, and libraries have grown, so has the density of the [Photos] app. So instead of hunting and pecking everywhere, we create a simple, streamlined photo delight based on deep intelligence,” Sorrentino explained. At the end of the day, we seek to eliminate friction. “

The new Photos app design focuses heavily on customization, giving users more insight into the interface design.

“A lot of deep intelligence combined with personalization means images can be more personal,” explained Della Huff, head of Apple’s camera and photography products marketing team. “Everyone has a different workflow and therefore automatic customization is key here. “

At WWDC 2024 last month, Apple described the Photos update as its “biggest redesign ever done. “The new design revolves around a single view that features a grid of images across collections and favorites, people, places, and more.

iOS 18 is lately in beta testing for developers, and there will most likely be some tweaks between now and when the update is released to everyone in September. So far, the redesign of the Photos app has been a polarizing topic among Apple users, but there’s still plenty of time for things to change.
